Reading companion for Goal Recognition for Rational and Irrational Agents
Peta Masters and Sebastian Sardina, Goal Recognition for Rational and Irrational Agents, AAMAS 2019
A hosted reading workbook for Masters and Sardina's AAMAS 2019 paper on cost-based goal recognition when observed agents are not perfectly rational.
I am working through this paper with a reading companion: a self-contained workbook that walks through the assumptions behind cost-based goal recognition, then shows how recognition changes when agents act suboptimally or irrationally.
The paper is especially useful for thinking about intelligent agents in realistic settings. Real agents often take detours, make mistakes, or choose non-optimal paths, and a recognizer that assumes perfect rationality can become brittle. Masters and Sardina make that mismatch explicit and give a framework for reasoning about it.
